I recently did a photo shoot of some very elaborate tattoos for a friend. She had a very specific look in mind which resulted in a panoramic style look of her reclining with a totally black background. We ended up printing both color and black and white versions of the print in a 10 x 20 inch format which she had framed. With large tattoos like this, the biggest challenge is determining the best angle and lighting to show as much of the tattoo as possible while still being aesthetically pleasing. We experimented with many different positions, but ultimately lying on her side proved to be the best. I used a couple of soft florescent lights on either side and a hard warmer back light to provide the hair highlights.
